Ireland strike gold at UCI Paracycling Road World Cup

The Irish Paracycling Squad started Rome’s UCI Paracycling Road World Cup in fine style yesterday with two podium places. Time-trial win for Rohan Mark Rohan won the HC1 time trial race with a time of 26’17.89 – just 1.91 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Also claiming a medal were female tandem pairing Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan. The girls secured silver in their time-trial, which was won by Canada.  Ireland’s second female tandem pairing Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Sandra Fitzgerald finished in ninth place to secure their first road top-ten placing. Other results Elsewhere, the Irish squad performed creditably in their respective Time Trial races:
  • Fourth for Colin Lynch in the Male C2
  • Sixth Place by James Brown & Damien Shaw in the Men’s Tandem
  • Seventh place for Cathal Miller in the Male C5 category
  • Eleventh Place for Enda Smyth in the Male C3 category
Today’s racing Two squad members will be in action in today’s Road Race. Cathal Miller goes in the C5 category and Mark Rohan will attempt to claim another title in the HC1 category.  The other squad members will compete in the road-races on Sunday. Ranking points  The results of the best-placed riders in both time-rrial and road-races will be added together. The best-placed will receive the treasured “Road World Cup Jersey” and will lead the series to the second round next month in Spain.
