Paralympic athletes are grouped for competition according to the type and extent of their disability
John McCarthy took up Paralympic athletics in 1995 and has since represented Ireland at two Paralympic Games, winning club silver at Athens 2004.
John now competes also in the wheelchair sprint events and will be hoping to qualify for both 100m and club events at London 2012.
