The London 2012 Paralympic Games will be the fourteenth staging of the summer Paralympic Games and will take place between 29 August and 9 September 2012.
The biggest yet
The London 2012 Paralympic Games will see the greatest ever number of competing elite Paralympic athletes (4,200 from 150 countries). The Irish team of around 40 athletes across various sports will travel to London with high hopes of repeating their successes of Beijing 2008.
“Sport like never before”
The “Home Games” will showcase Paralympians as supremely talented athletes, distinguished by their incredible ability, not disability. Host UK broadcaster, Channel 4 will be showing over 150 hours of live coverage and this should lead to unprecedented domestic attention for the Games.
Road to the Games
Tickets went on sale on 9 September 2011, the day after International Paralympic Day in Trafalgar Square. An incredible 1.14 million tickets were applied for. All remaining Games tickets are now on general online sale.
