The 2012 London Paralympic Games which ran for twelve spectacular days through late August and early September were the fourteenth staging of the Summer Paralympic Games and are now widely known as ‘the best Games ever’!

The biggest yet

A record total of 4237 athletes from 164 countries competed in 503 events across twenty sports at the 2012 Games. A remarkable 2.72million tickets were sold for the various events. The 49 strong Irish team in London returned home to the adulation of the nation having achieved success beyond all expectations winning sixteen medals in total; eight gold, three silver and five bronze.

A new audience

Setanta Sports Ireland became the first Irish network to ever show live coverage of the Paralympic Games broadcasting over 70 hours of Games coverage which brought Paralympic sport and the Irish athletes in particular to a whole new audience nationwide. This coverage provided on a free view basis to Irish audiences proved massively successful with impressive viewing figures reported.
