Great Irish performances at the inaugural European Paralympic Committee Youth Games in Croatia
The weekend saw four athletes from Ireland compete in swimming and athletics events in the inaugural European Paralympic Committee Youth Games in Varazdin, Croatia.
Friday started the event well with some fantastic performances in both Athletics and Swimming, Conor McBride ran a personal best in both his 100m finishing in 4th place and the 200m which saw him pick up a Bronze medal.
In the pool Patrick Flanagan won gold medals in both the S7 50m Freestyle and the 100m Backstroke. Friday also saw Thomas Maher getting personal bests in his S10 50m Freestyle and SB9 100m Breaststroke finishing 7th in both events. Unfortunately Adam Johnson was the only S6 in the competition so did not get awarded any medals but Johnson did achieve personal bests in both his 50m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke on the Friday.
The success in the pool continued on Saturday with Patrick Flanagan receiving another two gold medals in the S7 100 Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. More personal bests were achieved by Thomas and Adam in their remaining events seeing Thomas finish 4th in the 50m Backstroke.
Massive congratulations to all the atheletes and staff, which was lead by Niamh McDonnell, on the successful performances at the inaugural European Paralympic Committee Youth Games.
