"We are really disappointed with the result" - Barry Ferguson on Ireland's defeat to Great Britain

There was major disappointment for the Irish CP Football squad on Monday evening as the side suffered their second defeat of the CP Football Pre-Paralympic Games tournament in Salou at the hands of near-neighbours, Great Britain.

A decent first half saw the boys in green keep the GB attack at bay, and solid performances from Conor Tuite and Luke Evans kept Ireland in touch at the break as they went in trailing 1-0.

However, the second half saw Great Britain step it up, and though Luke Evans scored a cracking goal for Ireland, and Gary Messett was unlucky on a few occasions, Great Britain had the edge and drilled home two more goals to take the win on a final scoreline of 3-1.

The loss follows the Irish side’s 3-0 defeat to Brazil on Sunday evening and as they look ahead to this evening’s last group game against the USA, Team Manager Barry Ferguson said: “We’re really disappointed with the result. Great Britain are a really good side, and though we competed well, we are disappointed with some of the goals we conceded.”

Ireland will play the USA at 5pm (Irish time) this evening. You can watch the live stream here.
